SIOI Series
Among the numerous initiatives launched by SIOI in 2024 to commemorate the Society’s 80th anniversary is the establishment of the *SIOI Series*, published in collaboration with Armando Editore. These SIOI-branded publications aim to disseminate the Society’s wealth of knowledge, research, analysis, training, and outreach in the field of international relations. Thanks to the agreement with Armando Editore, SIOI members will benefit from a 20% discount on all volumes listed in the publisher’s catalog.
The inaugural volume of the Series is a reprint of Franco A. Casadio’s seminal work, *World Conflict and International Relations*. Casadio, who served as SIOI’s Director General from 1955 to 1989, explores the complexity of global conflict and international relations during a critical period in contemporary history, spanning from 1945 to 1982. This meticulous analysis encompasses 412 conflicts, including international conflicts, internal wars, and coups d’état. The combination of comprehensive empirical data and sharp theoretical insights provides readers with a robust framework for understanding not only the historical period in question but also the broader dynamics governing conflicts and international relations. With an introduction by General Caruso, the volume underscores how Casadio’s methodology—merging empirical rigor with theoretical analysis—remains highly relevant and valuable for today’s scholars and professionals in the field.

The second volume in the Series, published in December 2024, invites readers to reflect on an organization that has played a pivotal role in international relations, not only in the Western world but globally: the North Atlantic Alliance. The work, titled *NATO Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow*, originates from the international conference organized by SIOI in collaboration with the NATO Public Diplomacy Division. The conference was held on April 15–16, 2024, in Rome at the *Caserma Salvo D’Acquisto* of the Carabinieri to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Atlantic Alliance, founded in 1949. The event was opened by the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and featured the participation of distinguished civilian and military experts from Italy and abroad, who engaged in a vibrant debate on the “state of health” of the Alliance.
The volume is divided into three parts. The first section, dedicated to the Rome Conference, includes speeches and discussions from the participants, offering readers the opportunity to “attend” the event and follow the debate. The second section features contributions from individuals with professional experience in NATO, reflecting on its evolution and approaches to addressing various crises over the years. The third section contains key documents, including the text of the founding treaty, the current Strategic Concept, and details of Italy’s contributions to the Alliance.
