PRESIDENTE DELLA SOCIETA' ITALIANA PER L'ORGANIZZAZIONE INTERNAZIONALE
Nel corso della sua carriera diplomatica l’Ambasciatore Umberto
La Rocca ha prestato servizio all’estero nelle sedi di New
York, Londra, Parigi e Washington. E’ Stato Rappresentante
Permanente presso le Nazioni Unite a New York.Nel suo servizio
a Roma presso l’Amministrazione centrale, egli ha, tra l’altro,
ricoperto le funzioni di Coordinatore per gli affari europei,
Vice Direttore Generale per gli affari politici e Capo di Gabinetto.Egli
è stato anche Consigliere diplomatico del Presidente del
Consiglio e suo Rappresentante personale (sherpa) per la preparazione
dei Vertici del G7.Alla cessazione della sua attività diplomatica,
ha assunto incarichi nel mondo imprenditoriale. E’ stato
Presidente della Società del Traforo del Monte Bianco,
membro del consiglio di amministrazione dell’Enel, Presidente
di Aeritalia e Presidente onorario di Alenia. Attualmente è
Presidente di Diplomatia.
E' Presidente della SIOI dal 1994.

DIPLOMATIC CAREER: Amb. Umberto La Rocca (retired) has joined
the Italian Foreign Service in 1951 and has served in a number
of diplomatic posts, New York, London, Paris and Washington. He
has been Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations
in New York from 1979 to 1984, and a Member of the Board of Unitar,
until 1987. During his stay at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
in Rome, he served as Co-ordinator of European Communities Affairs,
Deputy Director for Political Affairs and Chief of Staff of the
Minister of Foreign Affairs. He has been Diplomatic Counsellor
of the Prime Minister and his personal Representative (Sherpa)
to the G7 Summits.
OTHER TASKS: Once retired, he had a number of assignments in the
business world. He has been inter alia President of the Società
Italiana per il Traforo del Monte Bianco, member of the Board
of Directors of Enel (the Italian Electricity Board), President
of Aeritalia and Honorary President of Alenia (aerospace companies).
Currently he is President of “Diplomatia” (a debating
Club whose membership includes more than 50 ambassadors accredited
in Rome, representatives of the institutions and leaders of the
business community). He is also a Member of the Advisory Board
of the St. John’s University Graduate Center in Rome.
He has been
President of SIOI the “Italian Society for International
Organisation” since 1994.
